Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio
A single booster for three childhood vaccines, recommended if your last dose was more than ten years ago.
These three are covered by the UK childhood programme, but protection wanes and a booster is recommended for travel to many parts of the world if it is more than ten years since your last dose. One injection covers all three.
What it protects against
- Tetanus — caused by bacteria in soil everywhere in the world, entering through a cut or graze. A risk anywhere medical care is far away.
- Diphtheria — a bacterial throat infection spread by coughs and close contact, still found where vaccination coverage is low.
- Polio — a virus spread through contaminated food and water that can cause paralysis. Still present in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with occasional spread elsewhere; some countries require proof of a recent dose before you leave.
The vaccine
Revaxis is a single booster injection for anyone from six years who has completed the childhood course. If you never had a primary course, or are not sure, you may need three doses a month apart — the pharmacist will check your records with you. Protection lasts ten years.

This booster is available free from your GP surgery for travel. Ask them first; if they cannot fit you in before you go, we can.
