Start or continue oral contraception directly from the pharmacy, with no GP appointment needed.
Whether you want to start the pill for the first time, need a repeat supply of the one you already take, or have a question about your contraception, you no longer need a GP or sexual health clinic appointment. Under the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service our pharmacist can consult with you and supply the pill directly.
The service is free.
Who it is for
Anyone in England who can become pregnant, from the start of their periods up to the age of 54.
What we can supply
Both the progestogen-only pill (sometimes called the mini pill) and the combined pill. An initial supply is usually three months; once you are settled on it, that can be extended to twelve months at a time, so you are not having to reorder every few weeks.
If you are already using contraception, we can supply a repeat of your current pill. Have your existing packet to hand so the pharmacist can see exactly which one it is — there are a great many formulations and it matters that you stay on the same one.
How it works
We are an NHS distance selling pharmacy, so this consultation is by phone rather than at a counter. Book a time and a pharmacist will call you. You will be asked a short set of questions about your health — including your blood pressure and weight, which affect which pills are suitable — and the pharmacist will talk through the options with you.
Your supply is dispensed and delivered to your door, free of charge, in plain packaging.

The service is completely confidential. Your information is used only to provide the service you have asked for, and nothing is shared with anyone else without your consent.
