How do I know if I need to lose weight?
Obesity is a common problem in the UK, affecting approximately 1 in 4 adults, as well as 1 in 5 children between the ages of 10 and 11. If you ever want to check whether your current weight is healthy, you can do so using a BMI calculator, such as the NHS one. You can then interpret your results against the following criteria:
- For the majority of adults, a healthy weight is characterised by a BMI of 18.5-24.9
- A BMI of between 25 and 29.9 suggests that you are overweight
- Obesity is characterised by a BMI of between 30-39.9
- Finally, a BMI of 40+ indicates that you are characterised as being severely obese
Obesity can lead to incredibly serious health issues, such as type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. It can also have a knock on effect on your self-esteem and mental health.
How can we help you with weight management in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and cities all across the UK?
If you are struggling to find the motivation to lose weight, we are here for you. Our Pharmacy team will follow you along your journey, helping you tailor your treatment plan to your individual needs. Aside from our advice, we offer treatment to go alongside a healthy lifestyle. What is a weight loss pen?
A weight loss pen is a small, portable device that is prefilled for use, whenever is convenient for you. Despite being a prescription medicine, it is a user-friendly device, that can be self-administered in an area recommended by our pharmacy team. These include your stomach or abdomen area, your upper arm or your thigh. It is important to note that you should not insert your weight loss pen into a vein or muscle.
Moreover, remember that the weight loss pen does not act as a be-all-and–end-all solution, or an all-encompassing remedy. In order to see the full effects of your new lifestyle starting to take shape, you should use this treatment alongside a reduced calorie diet, as well as an increase in physical activity. The best way to improve your quality of life is to focus on the mental and physical benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Who is eligible for a weight loss pen?
Ordinarily, a weight management pen such as this one is prescribed to individuals who meet set conditions that would render their weight to be of medical concern. These include:
- Those who have excessive weight, and a BMI of greater than or equal to 27
- Children aged 12-17, with a body weight exceeding 60kg
- Those with weight-related medical problems or obesity, with a BMI that is greater than or equal to 30
